Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) and other Global Forest Coalition members announced three nominations for a special TREETANIC AWARD this afternoon. The TREETANIC AWARD is handed over during the climate negotiations to the company implementing the worst carbon sink project.

WTO: Developing Countries And Civil Society Groups Stunned By WTO Draft Declaration?
Reaction in Geneva to the publication of the WTO's final draft declaration [1], to be negotiated at the 4th Ministerial in Doha, Qatar, 9-13 December, was muted yesterday - but only because developing country ambassadors and civil society groups were so shocked by its contents [2].

Tony Blair must use his influence with President Bush to persuade the United States to back the Kyoto climate protocol, Friends of the Earth said today. The call comes as representatives of Governments from across the world meet in Marrakech, Morocco (Monday 29 October - Friday 9 November) to build on their agreement to ratify the climate treaty in Bonn in July.

National environment group, Friends of the Earth Australia (FoEA) welcomed the launch of the ALP's foreign policy in Sydney yesterday.
It is essential that Australia take a proactive role in international negotiations. Under the current federal government, Australia¹s international reputation has sunk to an all time low. Australia¹s self interested approach to global issues has been consistently highlighted in climate change negotiations. The ALP has made a number of significant commitments in its foreign policy which would greatly improve Australia¹s international standing.

National environment group, Friends of the Earth Australia, has welcomed the ?One World Environment Policy launched by the Australian Greens this morning. The policy approaches environmental sustainability on a global level, in contrast with recent environmental debate in the election period. The group notes that to achieve genuine sustainability governments must engage at an international level.
